FAMILY CIRCULAR
Flemmer Circular 33/06 March 2006
Hi
Everyone,
Flemmer Circular 33/05 March 2006
There's a bit to tell
this time around. Firstly:
Flemmer & von Abo Family Reunion 14th - 17th
April 2006 Cradock
All is now on track for this wonderful event. The response
has not been as good as last time but there may still be some of you who haven't
booked or maybe haven't told us you're coming. If you are coming please email
Fay at cancun@icon.co.za or me at arcadia@49er.co.za My phone number is 021 788
5113 and fax 021 788 9324. I am pleased to say that we will have family members
from Denmark and Australia in Cradock. Those from Australia are the first members
of the von Abo family to attend. As I'm sure most of you know Betty von Abo was
the wife of Dr. Christian August Flemmer.
Once again I give you contact
details of the Tuishuise in Cradock: Contact Lisa Antrobus lisa@tuishuise.co.za
to make your booking now. It is important that you tell them it is for the Flemmer
2006 Reunion. You can phone (048) 881 1322, fax (048) 881-5388 or write to P.O.Box
433 Cradock 5880.
The programme for Cradock is:
Friday 14th - we
will have the welcoming evening braai in the gardens of the house Judy and I have
rented 'Karoo Morning' starting from around 6.30 p.m. We will supply salads, rolls,
fires, plates and cutlery. You only need to bring your own meat and drinks. If
you want chairs bring them and braai tools would be a help too. A night under
the Karoo stars with family you didn't know you had - what could be better!
Saturday
15th - from 10.30 the Library Hall in the Town Hall will be open with an exhibition
of Flemmer and von Abo displays. There will be some talks about our family and
tea and snacks will be served. If you attended the braai the night before there
will be a charge of R50 to come into the hall. We've tried to keep costs down
and the R50 covers the braai, hall hire, tea and all the other costs. If you didn't
go to the braai the charge will be R30.
The Victoria Hotel are offering
a light lunch 'special' for R30. We'll take bookings on the day.
In the
evening the Reunion Dinner, which was magnificent last time, will be held at the
Victoria Hotel. This was a truly memorable event and our wonderful hostess Sandra
Antrobus has kindly quoted the same price as three years ago - R75 - for the Victoria's
famous Karoo Buffet. There will be some red and white wines on the tables and
a cash bar will be available.
Sunday 16th - more or less a free day. Last
time people said that there had not been enough time to talk and catch up, so
we can make up for it on Sunday. There will probably be a guided walk to some
of the places of particular interest to us with a professional guide. I am getting
times of Anglican and Catholic church services over the Easter weekend and will
let you know them. As most of you know St. Peter's Anglican Church has a very
close and long link with many of our Flemmer ancestors going back to their arrival
in Cradock in 1853.
So I think we are well set for an enjoyable and memorable
weekend.
Attached to this circular you will find a self explanatory order
form for various books and memorabilia which will be available. It's important
that you get your orders in early! A few notes -
The Story of the South
African Flemmers. Yes THE BOOK is finally finished and I hope all of you who read
it get real enjoyment out of it. It is being printed by a professional publishing
company and Fay and I are very excited about how it's looking. It will be A4 size
with a soft cover, about 200 pages. It covers the period from when the Flemmer
family left Denmark, right through to the present generation. There are about
200 photos and illustrations and full family trees for all branches of the family.
Only 90 of these books will be available so if you want one I suggest you get
your order in early. The cost is R185 which is as low as I could get it, given
the size and quality.
The Flemmer and Descendants Who's Who Part 2. Many
of you will remember that we produced Part 1 at the 2003 Reunion. It had the personal
stories of 66 family members in it - a wonderful read which will stand the test
of time. We have since received stories from the people listed below and have
put them together in the Who's Who Part 2.

be available. I urge you again to get your orders in as soon as possible. Apart
from The Story of the South African Flemmers we will print to order. This means
that there will be no additional copies of the Who's Who Parts 1 & 2, and the
Flemmer History available after orders close.
